Walk on the hills of a 150-hectare nature reserve with great views of Johannesburg and its suburbs near the Confident Mine where the Struben Brothers discovered gold in 1884
Although you cannot expect to see large wildlife, the reserve is home to mountain reedbuck, dassies and mongoose. The reserve has several short color-coded circular trails.
The trail is a short version of the Dassie Trail that avoids the hills altogether. Named after Johannesburg’s first gold prospectors, Fred and Harry Struben, it a flat hike that starts from the gate past the amphitheater and leads to the Struben Mine adjacent to the bird hide at the dam (lake).
