Walk near flamingos and over 250 other species of birds in one of South Africa’s most important bird sanctuaries
The bird sanctuary, as part of the Blesbokspruit, is one of the 112 protected Important Birding Areas (IBAs) in South Africa (IBA SA021). The protected area, with over 10,000 birds (even up to 20,000), is a popular birding destination in a large floodplain.
Although the sanctuary is designed to access the bird hides by car, it is perfectly fine to walk around wherever the ponds do not stop you from walking through this high-altitude wetland with its reed beds.
