Explore birds and butterflies near the heart of Johannesburg in a fabulous reserve with small lakes, open grassland, bushland, an excellent restaurant and easy hikes in flat terrain
The nature reserve is perhaps one of Johannesburg’s best-kept hiking secrets. We enjoyed our numerous visits to the reserve as the birds, colorful vegetation, the dams (lakes) and varied landscapes make the area a nice spot for easy nature walking.
This pleasant circular trail starts from the picnic area at the Fish Eagle Dam and follows red trail markers to the dynamite bunkers and the Fish Eagle bird hide named after the lake that the trail circumnavigates.
