South Africa - Hiking Trails in and Around Pretoria and Johannesburg.Enjoy some of the best views of Pretoria from a short but demanding and steep trail to an Anglo-Boer Fort near the center of Pretoria

Despite its size of just 200 hectares, this nature reserve is certainly worth a visit for its views of Pretoria, the fort ruins, and the famous tree.

Named after what used to be a 1,000-year-old fig tree near the entrance of the park (the “mother tree” is no longer present), the nature reserve is home to one of the Anglo-Boer War forts that were built, but never used, to defend Pretoria from the British forces in the last Boer War.
